人像刀柄，內層為木雕像，外表全件包覆黃銅片；銅片表面頭髮和身體部位佈滿釘紋呈現紋身裝飾。人像呈站立狀，雙手張開平舉胸前。刀柄底座為一突出素面竹管，底端中央有一圓孔，可以插入刀身。根據博物館的記錄，本件物品為「偶像」；但是根據採集者的原始檔案，這是排灣刀的握柄。排灣族男子配刀的握柄和刀鞘，大多有雕紋裝飾；但人形紋只有頭目和貴族家才能使用，一般平民以動植物、圓紋或幾何紋裝飾。不過，本件握柄全件呈透雕包銅人形，造型相當特殊罕見；應該是屬於南排灣的造型。

■Tag Record: Catalogued “idol”. For photograph of like hilt, see: plates 99-102 (particularly #100), p.28 Jiro Miyakawa, Primitive Art of Formosa, Taipei, 1930. The Japanese text referring to these pieces was translated(Aug. 1960) by the Japanese Tourist Bureau. It mentions that they run 5 to 7 inches, are carved by the Paiwan and covered with brass, using many nails. The special significance of the sword among these people was also noted.
